Formed at the Indiana University Jacob School of Music by four graduate students from Hong Kong in 2015, Cong Quartet has established themselves as one of the most iconic young string quartets around.
In the past 10 years, the quartet has performed all around the world and previously held the Artistic Residency of Musique à Flaine in France in 2023, and was the Ensemble-in-Residence & Artist in Residence of The Chinese University of Hong Kong from 2019-2022. They have also established themselves as a top-prizes-winner in various international competitions, including the International Music Competition Triomphe de l'Art in Brussels in 2024, the Adolfo Betti Award at Virtuoso Belcanto Festival Chamber Music Competition in 2022, and the Grand Prize at the 2019 Salzburg Mozart International Chamber Competition in Tokyo. Cong Quartet is also being invited to the prestigious Banff International String Quartet Competition this year.
To celebrate their success and friendship for a full decade, Cong Quartet will have a series of anniversary concerts this fall, starting off at their home Hong Kong. The concert will include two most popular works in the genre, Debussy;s String Quartet in G minor, Op. 10 and Beethoven's String Quartet No. 10 in E-flat major "Harp". Coincidentally, both works also have a strong association with the number "10.
" Daniel Lo Ting Cheung's "Echoes of the Wasteland - after T. S. Eliot's Four Quartets" is a piece commissioned by Cong Quartet for this occasion. The piece will be performed by four quartets (16 strings), it will feature all previous members of the Cong Quartet and a few guest musicians who played an important role in their journey. The concert will be concluded with the most famous birthday gift in the classical music genre - the celebrative Mendelssohn String Octet, joined by two previous violinists of the Quartet, violist Juan-Miguel Hernandez & cellist Sterling Elliott.
